Week Beginning 17th April
Welcome back! We hope you’ve had a lovely Easter break.
Our new topic is ‘Wiggle and Crawl'. We have some special wriggly visitors that will be joining us on the first day back from Zoolab.
This week in English we will be writing about our Zoolab experience. We will also be starting to read and explore the structure of non-fiction texts on how to attract and care for mini beasts, including describing their environments/ habitats.
In Maths we will be looking at Fractions and finding a 1/4 1/2 and 3/4 of shapes, amounts of objects etc. We will be continuing to practise mixed addition and subtraction calculations.
In Topic we will be sorting and classifying minibeasts according to their features and habitats. In Art we will be sketching minibeasts and in Computing we will programme a mini-beast hunt by following simple instructions to find mini-beasts as well as De-bugging inaccurate instructions.
The Secret Garden
Our new topic this half term is ' The Secret Garden'.
This week in English we are working on our presentation and our handwriting. We are focusing on The Enormous Crocodile. We are learning about suffixes added to root words such as ment, ness and we are learning about Homophones such as their, they're and there.
In Maths we have been learning about length and height. We are using standard units of measure such as centimetre and metre. We are also using the vocab 'shorter', 'longer', 'shortest', 'longest' etc. to compare objects.
In topic we have been investigating different types of flowers, seeds and plants. We have been planting Runner bean seeds and observing and recording their growth.
Trip to Nottingham Castle. 02.02.17
Children are to wear their school uniform as usual and bring a labelled bottle of water. Lunches will be provided.
'Towers, Tunnels & Turrets'.
Already we have looked at various types of castles and labelled the main features. We have designed our own castles using a paint package on the IPADS. We have also bee looking at Towers and have become familiar with retelling the story of Rapunzel focusing on reported speech using inverted commas as well as writing story maps.
W/C 5 December
This week we have been busy with our preparations for Christmas. On Thursday we travelled back in time to a Victorian Christmas at New stead Abbey.
Anti - Bullying Week wc 14 November
This week is a special week with lots of fun and creative activities planned.
On Monday - it's spread the happiness day where all children are invited to come in clothes that make them feel happy. We will have lots of discussion and activities planned around the importance of happiness.
On Tuesday it's our Good to be Me day - where we will be discussing difference, diversity and similarities.
On Wednesday - we will be talking and learning about how to stop bullying and how our actions and words can have a great effect on others.
On Thursday - it's our E safety day - considering how to use computers and the internet safely and responsibly.
On Friday our week comes together in a special Children in Need day, come in something spotty and enjoy the balloon launch at 3pm
The Great Fire of London!
The Children have thoroughly enjoyed travelling back in time to learn about the Great Fire of London. We have been busy with sequencing the events and learning about significant individuals in time. We have been busy constructing a model town of London using different materials and carefully looking at the styles and materials of the buildings in the 16th century.
1st November 2016.
There will be no official spelling test this week, we will practise the Phase 4 tricky words sent out before half term during daily phonics sessions. PE days have also changed to a Monday and a Friday.
Week Commencing 31/10
I hope you all have had a wonderful Half term and feel rested. This half term we are focusing on 'Time travel' and will be discovering the History within different periods of Time. I am looking forward to reading through your choices and seeing where our learning takes us.
This week, we are turning into Time travellers where we will be focusing on the heroine Grace Darling and we will be going back in time to discover why and how she became famous. So get your time turners at the ready Class 6!
Week Commencing 17th October.
This week we are continuing to look at the lives of Pirates. We will be writing to Pirates and hopefully get a response back. We are also learning sea shanties in Music lessons and discussing the pirate code and the rights and wrongs of Pirate behaviour.
Don’t forget it’s our Harvest festival celebration at St James church on Thursday at 2 pm. Come and join us celebrate at the church.
We all loved or pirate day, lots of fun was had searching for treasure, making treasure maps, pirate keep fit and dancing the jig. We finished the day with a Pirate feast and enjoyed a pirate story by Daisy in Class 5! We were hooked from start to finish!
A BIG thank you to all mums, dads and carers for all the time spent and energy you spent making the costumes in short notice, all the children looked amazing!
Week Commencing 10th October.
This week, we are learning about Pirates and the children are loving our Pirate theme so far! We have read lots of pirate stories and linked our learning to the texts. We have read stories such Mr men's pirate adventure, The Pirate cruncher and the Pirate next door! The children have made Treasure maps this week to help find Captain Blackbeard's treasure.
Star Writers this week! 3rd October.
Check out this week's star writers..... The children have been writing about their experiences on board the Titanic! Both Class 5 and Class 6 have thoroughly enjoyed their role play experience, especially eating cake in the First class dining room!
Week Commencing 3rd October
This week we will be continuing our exciting research into the Titanic. The children have all been completely absorbed and excited in finding out information and talking about events. We will be taking ourselves back in time to imagine what it would have been like as a passenger boarding this amazing ship for the very first time. We will be writing about our experiences on the Titanic, what it looked like, how we felt.
In maths we will be moving on to exploring number patterns, looking at adding 2 more, 2 less, 10 more and 10 less.
We will be painting what we thought the Titanic looked like, listening to some music that may have been played by the orchestra (we may even have a dance or two). We will of course be continuing with our ukulele lessons and don't forget recorder club on Tuesday lunch time.
All this in 4 days, don't forget no school for children on Friday. Enjoy the fair.

Welcome back to our new Year 2's. We have had a super start to the week getting to know each other and finding our way round our new classroom.
This week (wc 12 September) we are starting our new topic "Land Ahoy", home learning books will be sent out later in the week with our topic overview and ideas to support at home.
Monday and Tuesdays are our PE days so please ensure full kit is in school on these days.
We are also excited to be starting to learn the Ukulele in class from this Tuesday!
In maths we will be counting up and back in 10's to 100 and reading, writing and learning the value of two digit numbers.
