  • Y1 Trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park

    Wed 21 Jun 2023

Year 1 had an amazing trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. In the morning we took part in a workshop and learnt about 4 carnivores:- tigers, lions, leopards and polar bears. We looked at replica skulls and found out about how the different shape of their teeth help them to hunt.

We found out the Leopard at the park was about to have cubs – so if anyone revisits in the summer you might see the new babies although when we went to see the leopards we did discover they are experts at hiding in the grass. We had a chance to dress up as different big cats and learnt about how camouflage helps them to hide from their prey. The rest of the day was spent exploring the park and we saw tigers, lions, leopard, zebra, rhino, polar bears, giraffes and many more.

We had a great day and  Year 1 were so well behaved, coping brilliantly with everything the weather threw at us!

  • Easter Fundraising

    Thu 30 Mar 2023

We would like to thank all our parents and children who contributed towards the Easter Fundraising.  We had 162 baskets made plus lots more in Little Stars.  This is the most ever and they all looked absolutely amazing – we had some very happy children!

From the funds raised (£153!) we have purchased some fantastic resources to be used at lunchtime in the playground for all the children.

Thank you so much for supporting us as always; it really means a lot.

  • Dodgeball Tournament

On Wednesday 29th March, we held our Year One and Year Two Dodgeball Tournament. A house point was awarded to everyone for taking part, and mixed year group teams were organised into the tournament. The winning team was Team Fire C, with the runners up as Team Air D. Well done everyone! The winners received 10 house points for each team member!

  • Red Nose Day 2023

    Fri 17 Mar 2023

It was great to see the children in their non-uniform outfits to help raise money for Comic Relief.

Thank you for clearing out our box of red noses and making such generous donations. And thank you to Friends of Westdale for holding a cake and sweets sale!

Together we have raised over £210 which will help support people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and tackle issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, and food poverty here in the UK and around the world.

  • Westdale Artwork

    Fri 03 Mar 2023

Westdale Infants Artwork has been taken to Carlton Academy ready for the grand opening of the Families of Art Exhibition next week.  All children in Year 1 and Year 2 have contributed to the piece, and more details on when you can go and see the art will be sent out to parents and carers.

  • Gifted and Talented Art Event

    Mon 16 Jan 2023

On Monday afternoon, six budding artists from Westdale went to the Carlton Academy to take part in a Gifted and Talented Art Event with three other schools from the local area.  The Westdale children were absolutely amazing and although the youngest there produced some amazing work using sgraffito and wax resist techniques.

In a couple of weeks, they will be passing their newfound knowledge onto children in Year 1 and Year 2 to produce some work for the Redhill Family of Schools Family Art event.  More details will follow. – Mrs Grimwade

  • Congratulations Ruari!

    Mon 12 Dec 2022

Tom Randall MP held a Christmas Card competition and we are delighted to say that the winning design came from Ruari McLaughlin of our Butterflies class!

Ruari’s design will be on the front of the 1,000 Christmas Cards to be sent out to people and organisations across Gedling. As a prize, Ruari has won four free tickets to watch Snow White at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham.

Mr Randall came into school on Monday 12th December to present a certificate and the prize to Ruari. Well done Ruari, we are super proud of you! Have a 'roarsome' Christmas everybody!

  • A Big Thank You!

    Thu 01 Dec 2022

This week marked 10 years’ service for our wonderful Literacy Volunteer, Linda Mockett. And we are so lucky because those 10 years have been dedicated to Westdale Infant School. Linda has been coming in every week over this time, and has helped so many children with their literacy, communication, and social skills.

Linda volunteers with a local charity, Literacy Volunteers, and Emma Collis (local area coordinator) came by the school to present Linda with a certificate and beautiful orchid (with the help of Cory and Beatrice!)

If you would like to know more about the charity and being a Literacy Volunteer, then please see their website: www.literacyvolunteers.org.uk

Thank you again Linda! You are such a valuable and appreciated asset to the school.
