At Westdale, we really focus on making reading fun and engaging. One fantastic resource we use is the Collins Big Cat reading scheme. It’s perfect for supporting children in their early reading journey. The scheme builds up skills based on the phonic sounds we cover in lessons, so the children can really apply and consolidate what they’ve learned. We also use a book banding system, which means children read colour-banded books that align with specific phases of phonic teaching. We also have access to the Dandelion Readers scheme, which looks at very specific sounds, to address particular gaps a child has. Our expert teachers keep a close eye on progress, ensuring that every child can move up to the next level when they're ready!
